Luisa Diaz is a visionary leader and passionate advocate for the “Kindness is Cool” movement, dedicated to uplifting individuals and communities through compassion
A Journey of Strength and Determination
Born in Venezuela, Luisa was raised by her grandparents, including her beloved grandmother, a survivor of physical and emotional abuse who became a beacon of strength and grace. Inspired by her grandmother’s resilience, Luisa carries forward a mission to uplift survivors, empower the vulnerable, and create a world where kindness is recognized as a strength, not a weakness.
When she moved to the United States, Luisa didn’t speak English and faced immense challenges in a new country. Determined to succeed, she taught herself English while attending college, ultimately earning a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC).
After graduating, she moved to North Carolina, where she made history by launching “Luisa Su Voz Latina,” the first and longest-running Spanish-language talk show on an American network (ABC and Warner Brothers). The program became a lifeline for the growing Latino community, offering essential information on legal services, healthcare, and social support.
She also directed the Miss North Carolina Latina pageant, creating life-changing opportunities for young Latinas by fostering confidence, leadership, and self-worth.
Hollywood and Beyond
Luisa’s journey then led her to Hollywood, where she appeared in Oscar-winning films like The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook. But she knew her true purpose extended beyond entertainment—her mission was to build a movement that would transform lives through kindness.
The Luisa Diaz Foundation & Kindness is Cool Movement
Recognizing the transformative power of kindness and community-driven action, Luisa founded the Luisa Diaz Foundation (LDF 501c3), a nonprofit organization dedicated to:
Uplifting and elevating communities through kindness, empowerment, and action
Supporting grassroots organizations that aid survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking
Creating programs that restore confidence, dignity, and hope
At the heart of the Luisa Diaz Foundation is the “Kindness is Cool” movement, which elevates kindness as a strength and a catalyst for lasting change.
MAG Gala: A Celebration of Kindness
The foundation’s signature event, the MAG Gala (Mi Amor Graciousness Gala), is a celebration of kindness, raising funds for grassroots nonprofits that assist survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking.
A key highlight of the MAG Gala is “The Runway of Hope,” a powerful segment where fashion meets compassion. This inspiring moment celebrates survivors as they walk the runway, symbolizing their journey from darkness to light—a powerful step toward healing, empowerment, and a new beginning. Walking towards the light.
Luisa works closely with each woman, reminding them of their beauty, strength, and worth. One of the most touching moments? Hearing a survivor say, “This is the first time in a long time that I feel beautiful.”
Through compassion, mentorship, and empowerment, Luisa helps survivors rewrite their stories—one step at a time.
A Legacy of Kindness
In recognition of her decade-long commitment to kindness, the Mayor of New York City proclaimed May 18th as “Kindness is Cool Day”—a permanent recognition of her movement’s impact.
Last year marked the 10th anniversary of the MAG Gala, held at the iconic Plaza Hotel in NYC.
